Our school production this year was "The Uno Effect", based on Graeme Base's "Uno's Garden", about the shift in balance from forest to city, greenery to buildings.
Our scenes, as Year 3, were playing games as happy children, and then building houses and other buildings.
We had great fun making up and practicing our dances, which ended with the whole Year group doing a flash mob dance, led by Holly and Chelsea! The builders' scene was also accompanied by musicians.
We had 4 shows for parents and guests and kept performing brilliantly on stage even when we were tired. Have a look at these photos of us on and off stage- you were FANTASTIC Year 3 well done!

Multiplication Magic!
We have been learning about Multiplication (grouping) and Division (sharing) all term, and yesterday we had a Problem-solving contest.
eg. If you and 3 friends won 48 cupcakes, would you rather have 6 each, or share them equally between you?
The Mathematicians in Room 15's Maths group worked with a buddy to solve similar questions: the key...read the question carefully, decide on the important numbers and the operation (x or /) and then choose the strategy to use!
The result...Maths superstars, well done!
We are also trying to beat our time for Multiplication Loopy (a bit like Multiplication dominoes in a circle)...keep those thinking caps on!

Giant Vocabulary
We have been reading Roald Dahl's "The BFG" and have been finding the BFG's vocabulary quite amusing.
He plays with words and mixes them up, such as 'crocadowndillies' (crocodiles), 'butteryflies' (butterflies), 'antcruncher'(anteater), 'hipswitch' (straight away) and 'eats' (food).
Room 15 have been using their 'gogglers' and "listeners" and have made up some of their own words up....ask them what mixed-up words they thought of!

Calendar Cats!
We have been busy creating crazy collage cats for out Calendars this year. We started by looking at some of Laurel Burch's cats, then we drew our own pictures and added designs. We filled the designs and patterns using collage and crayon, then dyed the background with black dye. We think they look fantastic!

Olympic Values
We have been discussing the Olympic Values, of friendship, respect, excellence, determination, courage, equality and inspiration, and how we can apply these to our lives, at school and at home.
We also wrote about how it would feel to win a Gold Medal - read some of our stories and FEEL the determination, courage and excellence!

All around me people are cheering. I was so proud of myself. I just won a Gold medal in fencing! I could feel my heart beating proudly! I was so excited! I had never won a gold medal in my life, it was so brilliant! I thought I was going to explode! (Seb)
I’ve crossed the line and I’ve won Gold and
do you know what I came first in? Running of course! When I came into the
stadium I was feeling very nervous then I had to put my feet in place.
Next minute I was running as fast as
possible. It was very special. I won Gold.
At the last 5 metres I could taste the smell of the excitement. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I won! Yeay!! (Chelsea)
I am an Olympic runner and am about to
receive a gold medal. I am overjoyed and very proud and I cry with happiness. I kiss my Gold medal as the interview man
comes up to me. I begin to say how I
won. I zoomed down the track at
tremendous pace, my heart was throbbing I couldn’t feel my feet but I went
on. I could see the ine right in front
of me. I dived for the line. I prepared
to land on the ground but I didn’t , I was so fast that I flew towards the
podium and landed in first place.(Tai)
I was so tired but my head told me to keep
going. Just when I touched the wall I
was so proud of myself. I was waiting
for my name to be called out.
I was first place and I was crying so hard-
it was a miracle! I looked up and saw cheering faces and smiling people. When I was standing on the podium the medal
was a bit heavy. The flowers were beautiful. I felt so proud of myself. When took my photo I was biting the medal
just to make sure it was not chocolate.(Holly)
As I swam in to the pool end I felt
exhausted. I got out and waited for my
name to be called out. When my name was
called out I stepped onto the podium and was presented the gold medal. I felt happy, other than exhausted. Suddenly I heard a familiar noise. It was the national anthem. (Dan)

The Olympics 2012
We have been learning about the Olympics this term so far and have learned lots of things: about the Olympics symbol and torch, about the different counties that have hosted the Olympics, and how it has changed since the Ancient Olympics. We've also been looking at how the Olympic Village in London is set up for the different events.
We've been keeping track of countries with medals, and Room 15 are particularly interested in New Zealand, England, Spain and Japan! Next week we will start making flags for our own country teams for the Muritai Mini-Olympics in Week 6.
